This Professional Development Package has answered the question, Why is providing authentic assessment to students important to ensure student success and how do educators decide if assessment is truly authentic? This has been done by firstly explaining through the expert knowledge of Marzano, what is decision making and how can we use this Complex Reasoning Process to help educators make important decisions about authentic assessment. Through continuing to deconstruct the posed question, Lynch and Knight's knowledge of assessment was used to create an interactive short video using an online tool called GoAnimate. This video helped clear up any confusions about assessment and linked in the 7 Learning Management Questions. Authentic assessment was defined and discussed which lead to the benefits of authentic assessment and how it leads to ensuring student success. Comparing between typical assessment and authentic assessment was argued to distinguish the difference between the two types. Original research of interviews and case studies backed up this research with policy documents. Finally a decision making graphic organiser was created as a guide for educators, using criteria to decide what types of assessment are more authentic to provide for students. By using authentic assessment success can be ensured for all students, through meaningful learning experiences.
