The Authentic Pedagogy System
According to the Queensland Studies Authority, the Authentic Pedagogy system;
"Delivers assessment instruments that motivate students to learn, provides maximum opportunities for students to
demonstrate what they have learnt; and improves consistency of teacher judgment about the quality of student work" (Queensland Studies Authority, 2010).

The Authentic Pedagogy System was developed by Newmann and Wehlage (1995) and still to this day this system is the basis of authentic teaching and assessment in Australian education.
The Authentic Pedagogy approach has three major components which include;
-Construction of Knowledge (higher order thinking);
-Disciplined Inquiry (deep knowledge and engagement in substantive conversations); and
-Value Beyond the School (make connections between the substantive knowledge learnt and real life problems/experiences).
(Newmann, 1995).
These components are the foundation of authentic assessment and the link between higher order thinking, connections to real life and ensuring student success.
